REFER200 is a new customer offer only. Tide defines a new customer as someone who has never previously held a Tide business account. If you have ever registered for Tide — even if the account was closed, never funded, or opened years ago — you are not eligible for the REFER200 cashback.
This is a hard eligibility rule, not a soft guideline. Tide's automated system checks your identity against their records at the point of application. If a match is found, the referral code will not attach and the cashback will not be awarded.
What counts as a "previous Tide account"?
Tide's eligibility check is broad. The following all count as a previous account and disqualify you from REFER200:
- A Tide account you opened and actively used in the past.
- A Tide account you opened but never funded or used.
- A Tide account that has since been closed at your request.
- A Tide account that was closed by Tide for inactivity or another reason.
- A Tide account opened under a previous business name, if it was linked to your personal identity.
The key factor is whether you as an individual have previously held a Tide account, not whether the specific business entity has. Tide's eligibility check is identity-based.
Can I open a new account for a different business?
No. REFER200 eligibility is tied to the individual applicant, not the business entity. If you previously held a Tide account as a sole trader and are now opening one for a limited company, you are still not eligible. If you previously held a Tide account for one limited company and are opening one for a different limited company, you are still not eligible — provided you are the same director applying.
If a different director of a new company applies and has never held a Tide account themselves, they may be eligible. Tide's eligibility check is on the individual applicant's identity.
I closed my old Tide account. Does that restore eligibility?
No. Closing a previous Tide account does not restore REFER200 eligibility. Tide's terms state the offer is for customers who have never previously held a Tide account, not for customers who do not currently hold one. The historical record of account ownership is what matters, not the current status.
What can existing Tide customers do?
If you are an existing Tide customer, REFER200 is not available to you. However, there are a few things worth checking:
- In-app promotions: Tide occasionally runs loyalty offers, plan upgrade promotions and cashback on specific spending categories for existing customers. Check the "Offers" or "Promotions" section of your Tide app.
- Refer a friend: Tide's referral programme allows existing customers to refer new customers and earn a reward when the referred customer opens an account. This is separate from REFER200 and available to existing customers.
- Plan upgrades: If you are on Tide Free, upgrading to Smart, Pro or Max may come with introductory offers from time to time.
None of these are equivalent to the REFER200 cashback, but they represent the available options for existing customers.
What if I entered REFER200 but I'm an existing customer?
If you entered REFER200 during your application but are an existing customer, the code will not attach. You will not receive the cashback. Tide's system will identify the duplicate identity at the point of account creation or at the point of cashback validation, and the reward will not be issued.
If you believe this is an error — for example, if you have never held a Tide account but the system is incorrectly identifying you as an existing customer — contact Tide's support team directly via the app. This site is independent and cannot process cashback queries or disputes.
What about joint accounts or business partners?
Tide business accounts are individual accounts (one account per business, applied for by one director or sole trader). There are no joint accounts in the traditional sense. If you are a director of a business and your co-director has previously held a Tide account, your own eligibility depends on your own history, not theirs.
