Tide and REFER200 — comprehensive FAQ
Every common question about the Tide business account and the REFER200 cashback offer, grouped by topic. Skim the headings or use Ctrl/⌘+F to find what you need.
The offer (REFER200)
What is the current Tide referral code?+
REFER200. It applies to new UK Tide business accounts and is worth up to £200 cashback, subject to Tide's terms.
How much can I earn with REFER200?+
Up to £200, split into two independent rewards: £75 for £100 of Tide card spend within 30 days, and £125 for depositing £5,000 into Tide Instant Saver within 7 days and holding it for 30 days.
Can I earn one portion without the other?+
Yes. The £75 and £125 are scored independently. If you only complete the card-spend step you receive £75; if you only complete the saver step you receive £125.
Is REFER200 better than older codes like REFER75 or REFER175?+
Yes. REFER200 includes everything the old codes paid and adds the £125 Instant Saver reward. Older codes are no longer live — see our offer history.
Does REFER200 have an end date?+
Tide doesn't publish a fixed end date. The offer is live at the time of writing — see the offer-last-checked date sitewide. Tide can change or withdraw it at any time.
Is REFER200 a discount on Tide's plan fees?+
No. It's cashback paid into your Tide account, not a discount. The Free plan is free either way; cashback is paid on top.
Can I stack REFER200 with any other promo?+
No. Only one referral or promo can apply per new Tide account.
Eligibility
Who can use REFER200?+
New UK Tide business customers who pass Tide's standard KYC and complete the qualifying activity within the windows. Sole traders, freelancers, contractors and limited companies are all eligible on the same terms.
Can existing Tide customers use REFER200?+
No. The offer is for accounts that have never held a Tide business account before.
I had a Tide account that was closed — can I reopen with REFER200?+
Generally no. Previously-closed accounts are usually treated as existing customers for referral purposes. Tide makes the final decision.
Do sole traders qualify on the same terms as Ltd companies?+
Yes. Sole traders, freelancers, contractors and limited companies all qualify on equal terms.
I'm not based in the UK — can I still apply?+
Tide is for UK businesses and UK-registered companies. Non-UK applicants generally can't open an account or claim REFER200.
My business is in a higher-risk sector — am I eligible?+
Tide doesn't accept every business type. Higher-risk MCCs (gambling, certain crypto, adult content, some regulated financial services) may be declined. If your application is declined, REFER200 cannot apply.
Signup
Where do I enter REFER200?+
Use the Open Tide button on this site so the code is attached automatically, or paste REFER200 into the referral / promo code field during signup.
How long does Tide take to approve my account?+
Most sole traders are approved in minutes. Limited companies usually clear within one working day. Higher-risk applications can take longer.
Does Tide do a credit check?+
Opening a Tide account is not a hard credit check on your personal file. Tide may run identity and fraud checks against credit reference agencies' data.
What documents do I need?+
Photo ID (passport or UK driving licence), a UK address, and — for limited companies — director and PSC details plus your Companies House number. Full list on our account checklist page.
I forgot to enter REFER200 at signup. What now?+
Contact Tide support in-app immediately. Codes generally must be attached at signup, but it's worth asking. See our 'forgot to enter the code' troubleshooting page.
Can I open multiple Tide accounts to claim REFER200 twice?+
No. The offer is for new customers only and per account.
Cashback and timing
When is the cashback paid?+
Tide validates each portion after the qualifying step completes. Allow a reasonable validation window after the 30-day point. Timings are set by Tide.
Is the cashback paid in one lump or two parts?+
The £75 and £125 are validated independently and may be paid separately.
What if my cashback hasn't arrived?+
Check the qualifying steps (£100 card spend in 30 days; £5,000 in Instant Saver within 7 days, held for 30 days). If you've met them and you're past Tide's validation window, contact Tide support — full checklist on our 'cashback not received' page.
Do ATM withdrawals count toward the £100 card spend?+
No. ATM withdrawals are excluded from qualifying card spend. See 'what counts as Tide card spend'.
Can I withdraw the £5,000 as soon as day 30 ends?+
Yes. Once the 30-day hold completes you can move the money freely. Withdrawing before day 30 generally voids the £125 reward.
Safety and protection
Is Tide a bank?+
Tide is an FCA-authorised UK financial platform. Business bank accounts are issued via ClearBank (a UK-licensed clearing bank). Some Tide accounts are e-money. See 'is Tide a bank?'.
Is Tide FSCS-protected?+
Funds in ClearBank-issued bank accounts are FSCS-eligible up to £85,000 per depositor. E-money balances are safeguarded under UK e-money rules but are not FSCS-protected.
Is REFER200 a scam?+
No — it is Tide's official referral programme. We are an independent introducer site and Tide controls all reward validation.
Will REFER200 affect my taxes?+
Cashback paid for business activity is typically treated as taxable income for the business. Speak to your accountant about how to record it.
What happens if Tide goes out of business?+
ClearBank-issued account balances are FSCS-eligible up to £85,000. E-money balances are returned from segregated safeguarded accounts. Either way, your funds are ring-fenced from Tide's own money.
Fees and plans
Does Tide have a truly free plan?+
Yes. The Free plan has no monthly fee. You pay per UK transfer above the free allowance and per ATM withdrawal. Low-volume sole traders typically pay £0/month in practice.
Which plan should I pick?+
Start on Free unless you know you'll exceed the included transfer allowance. Move to Smart or Pro as transaction volume grows. See our Tide fees page.
Are there hidden fees?+
No hidden fees, but check the schedule of charges for ATM withdrawals, cash deposits via PayPoint/Post Office, international payments and PAYG transfer fees beyond your allowance.
Does the £200 cashback cover Tide's plan fees?+
Effectively, yes — £200 covers many months of Smart or Pro fees for most users. It's not formally a fee waiver, but the net cash impact is similar.
Troubleshooting
REFER200 was rejected during signup — why?+
Most common causes: typo or extra space, an existing or previously-closed Tide account, or an expired code (REFER75/REFER175 are no longer live). See 'Tide referral code not working'.
I missed the 7-day saver window — is the £125 lost?+
Generally yes. The window is a hard deadline. You can still earn the £75 card-spend reward by completing the £100 card spend within 30 days.
I withdrew some of the £5,000 by accident — can I top up?+
Once the balance drops below £5,000 inside the 30-day hold the £125 portion is generally lost. Topping back up doesn't reset the clock.
Tide declined my application — can I appeal?+
You can ask Tide support to reconsider with additional information, but Tide's decision is final. If declined, REFER200 cannot apply.
My card isn't being accepted online — what next?+
Confirm 3D Secure is set up, that the card is activated in-app, and that the billing address matches what Tide holds. Contact Tide support if it persists.
