How to use REFER200 the right way

Most missed REFER200 cashbacks come from one of three mistakes: adding the code too late, missing the 7-day saver deadline, or withdrawing before day 30. Here's the safe playbook — read it before you open the account.

  1. Step 1
    Open Tide via our link

Tap the REFER200 button on this site so the code is attached to your application from the start. Manual entry after account opening generally cannot be retroactively applied.

  2. Step 2
    Complete sign-up and KYC

Provide business details, photo ID and any documents Tide requests. Most sole traders are approved in minutes; limited companies usually within a working day.

  3. Step 3
    Fund and activate your card

Move starter funds into your Tide account, activate your physical or virtual Tide Mastercard, and confirm 3DS is set up for online payments.

  4. Step 4
Spend £100 on the Tide card in 30 days

Any qualifying business transactions count. Spread spend over several merchants and the first two weeks — don't leave it to day 29.

  5. Step 5
Open Tide Instant Saver and deposit £5,000 within 7 days

Inside the app, tap Saver, open Instant Saver and transfer £5,000 in. Do this within 7 days of account opening. Screenshot the confirmation.

  6. Step 6
Hold the £5,000 for a full 30 days

Diary the 30-day mark. Do not withdraw before that date or the £125 portion is forfeited.

  7. Step 7
    Receive up to £200 cashback

Tide credits each portion after the qualifying step completes and is verified. Timings can vary — check Tide's terms for the latest.

Timeline at a glance

  • Day 0: account opens. Card en route, Instant Saver available immediately.
  • Day 0–7: deposit £5,000 into Instant Saver.
  • Day 0–30: spend £100 on the Tide card across normal business transactions.
  • Day 7–37: hold the £5,000 in Instant Saver for the full 30-day hold period.
  • Day 30+: the £75 portion typically credits shortly after the card-spend window closes.
  • Day 37+: the £125 portion typically credits shortly after the 30-day saver hold completes.

Plan the £5,000 before you sign up

The single biggest reason people miss the £125 reward is not having the £5,000 ready to deposit when the 7-day clock starts. If you have a Self Assessment pot, Corporation Tax pot, retained earnings or personal savings you can rotate in for 30 days, line that up before you open Tide.

Pick easy, qualifying card spend

Software subscriptions, fuel, travel, equipment, marketing, professional fees — anything that's a legitimate business expense you'd be paying anyway. Avoid gambling, certain crypto MCCs and cash-equivalent transactions, which may not count under Tide's terms.

If you missed a window

Contact Tide support through the app. We can't process or chase REFER200 cashback on Tide's behalf — Tide controls eligibility — but we can help you understand what went wrong before the next decision deadline.

What "verification" means in practice

Each portion of REFER200 is reviewed by Tide before it's credited. The most common reason cashback isn't credited automatically is one of the conditions being missed (most often the saver hold). If you've met all conditions and the cashback hasn't appeared after the published window, raise it with Tide support inside the app and reference REFER200 and the dates of your qualifying activity.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to use the saver to qualify?+

No — the £125 portion specifically requires the Instant Saver step. You can still earn the £75 portion from card spend alone.

Does PayPal or contactless count for the £100?+

Standard Tide card business spend counts (contactless, chip-and-PIN, online card payments, Apple/Google Pay tokens of the Tide card). Topping up PayPal from your Tide card normally counts; the actual PayPal payment doesn't because it leaves your Tide card. Gambling, certain crypto MCCs and ATM withdrawals are excluded.

Can I split the £5,000 across multiple transfers?+

Yes, typically — provided the total reaches £5,000 within 7 days of opening. A single transfer is the lowest-risk approach and gives you a clean screenshot for evidence.

What happens if I withdraw on day 29?+

The £125 portion is forfeited if you drop below £5,000 before the 30-day hold completes. Diary the exact date and avoid standing orders that could dip the balance.

Will the £75 still be paid if I miss the saver step?+

Yes — the two portions are independent. Hitting only the £100 card-spend step still earns the £75.

Should I open the account on a Friday?+

It's safer to open on a weekday morning so identity checks clear during business hours. Friday-evening signups can drift into the weekend before approval, eating into your 7-day saver window.

What if my account isn't approved instantly?+

Most clocks start at approval rather than application. If approval takes a day or two, your 7-day saver deadline shifts by the same amount. Confirm the start date in your welcome email.

Can my accountant or co-director make the £5,000 transfer?+

It doesn't matter who sends the £5,000 as long as it arrives in your Tide Instant Saver within 7 days and stays there for 30 days. Many founders move it from their own personal account.

What if I have to break the saver hold for a tax bill?+

If you can't avoid breaking the hold, you'll lose the £125 portion but still keep the £75 (assuming you completed the £100 card spend). The two are independent.
